USDA studies have shown that food insecurity negatively affects children’s cognitive development, overall health and behavior, which impedes their success in school and ultimately life. To date, Congaree Foundation funding and volunteers have supported 14 fresh-for-all markets at Ridgeland and Hardeeville elementary schools and 105 drive-thru distributions that have helped send more than 1 million pounds of food to Lowcountry families in need.
